For this project, my client wanted to use elements of a traditional inherited piece to create a modern ring that she could wear every day.
Taking my ‘Layers Ring’ design as our starting point, we decided this beautiful sapphire that her Grandfather had brought back from his time in India should be the focal point. 22ct gold from the original ring was recycled to become the outer layer of the ring and the setting for the sapphire. The finished piece has layers of family history as well as a beautiful combination of the sapphire, the 22ct gold and the unpolished 18ct white gold of the ring.
“A ring that had been given to me by my grand-mother – it was such an ugly setting that the glorious sapphire did not have a chance to shine. I took it to Lucy who suggested an alternative setting, using the antique gold from the original ring, and it really shows off the beauty of the stone. ”
